Dave Sims

David Sims is a graduate of the University of Cape Town, South Africa and served his Auditing Articles with Deloitte (fka Pim Goldby) in Cape Town. He spent a further 4 years with the South African Revenue Services before relocating the St. Thomas US Virgin Islands in 1989. After managing Trident Trust Company VI until 1992, he moved to Tortola, British Virgin Islands (“BVI”) where he joined Citco BVI Limited, as Head of Fund Services and later as Director, until departing 5 years later, in 1997 to found the Beacon Group of Companies (“Beacon”). Beacon was licenced and regulated by the BVI Financial Services Commission (“FSC”) to provide Company and Fund Management, as well as Fund Administration Services.  David is now Director of Sentinel International Management SA, (“Sentinel”), which until June 2018 was licenced as a Company Manager in the BVI.

David served as a director of a Licenced Insurance Company from 2003 and in 2004 co-founded a Licenced Insurance Management Company, also in the BVI, serving continuously as director of both entities for 15 years until his resignation in 2018, when both entities ceased trading.

In 2011, the Beacon Group was acquired by Caledonian Group in the Cayman Islands and  David was appointed Managing Director of Caledonian Global Fund Services Ltd., in Cayman as well as its related operating entities in BVI, Cayman, Isle of Man, South Africa and the USA, until their sale in late 2014.

David has resided in the Islands continuously since 1989, spending his time between the BVI and Cayman. He has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of Trust, Insurance, Fund and Company management. He has extensive experience in all aspects of the establishment, organization, operation, governance and management of Hedge Funds, and other investment vehicles and Managers.

David currently serves as a director of several International Funds, and Managers domiciled in the BVI, Bahamas and Cayman.

He holds a postgraduate (Honours) degree in Taxation from the University of Cape Town. David has been active in the Financial industry holding leadership positions on several industry associations in the BVI over an extended period, as well as being appointed by the FSC to the SIBA Advisory Committee in the BVI and its predecessor body, from 2000 until 2014.  He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
